Topic : Synopsis:
This session will provide a comprehensive overview of the critical role export controls and sanctions play in maintaining trade compliance and national security. Professionals working in cybersecurity, risk, and compliance roles must understand how U.S. sanctions and export control regulations affect international transactions, data transfers, and technology sharing.
Participants will explore the regulatory landscape shaped by the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS). The session will examine how these agencies enforce sanctions and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and how their mandates impact global operations.
The discussion will highlight:
- Prohibited transactions with sanctioned countries, entities, and individuals.
- Compliance requirements when dealing with restricted parties.
- Risks and consequences of non-compliance, including significant financial penalties, legal ramifications, and operational restrictions.
- Key considerations for technology exports and the release of controlled information to foreign nationals, even within the U.S. (deemed exports).
